UK Independence Party

For Newbury & West Berkshire

Local UKIP

UKIP is at an exciting stage in its development with more and more people becoming disillusioned with the main political parties.  With the main parties offering more or less the same programme for government, UKIP is ready to offer a real alternative to the UK electorate.  However, we cannot increase our share of the vote both nationally and locally without the help of our supporters.  Any help would be gratefully received.  UKIP now has a formal constituency branch in West Berkshire so please do get involved.

To find out how you can get involved, follow this link or come along to one of our local events.

Local Council Elections

In 2011, local elections will be held in West Berkshire.  We want to field as many candidates as possible around this area. Although known for its commitment to withdrawing the UK from the European Union, the UK Independence Party is in reality a much broader nationwide party campaigning to return power and independence to the people.  The party already has local councillors in many areas. Today local councils have no real power. They have to do what they are told by central government and regional bodies such as the Regional Development Agency – looking after the interests of their local communities comes last. Only the UK Independence Party believes in true local independence from Whitehall interference.

UKIP want independence for local councils, schools, police, hospitals, social care and planning.

UKIP wants independence for local people to decide local issues in local referenda.

UKIP wants councils to have independence to spend local money the way local people want.

UKIP believes first and foremost that its councillors should serve you.  The party has a “no whip” policy in local elections which means that your UKIP councillor will represent you and not follow party lines in any local decision making.  Your councillor will do what is best for the ward he or she is serving without having to vote according to party policy.  Vote UKIP for an independent voice representing you and speaking up for you on local government issues.

If you would like to stand for UKIP in the elections next year here in West Berkshire or would like further information, please email davidm@ukipnewbury.org.uk or phone 01635 524880 now.
